ESA, NASA and CSA have released unprecedented Saturn images from the collaboration between James Webb and Hubble telescopes. The combined observations offer new insights into the gas giant's atmospheric composition and movements, with Hubble capturing August 2024 images as part of its Outer Planet Atmosphere Legacy program while Webb's infrared views followed months later.

Hubble's visible light reveals subtle color variations across Saturn's banded clouds, while Webb's infrared sensors detect clouds and chemicals at multiple atmospheric depths. Webb's images highlight the planet's highly-reflective icy rings and grey-green polar shading, with scientists suggesting these color differences result from either high-altitude aerosols or charged molecules interacting with Saturn's magnetic field.
