Valve to Discontinue LCD Steam Deck Batteries

An iFixit staffer recently told a Steam Deck owner that Valve has no plans to stock replacement OEM batteries for the LCD model. While the device is known for its repairability—earning a 9/10 fixability rating for the OLED and a respectable 7/10 for the original LCD—the news suggests a significant drop in parts availability.

A Reddit post highlighted by Video Cardz shows an email from iFixit's Customer Operations: “We have no immediate plans to stock a replacement battery for the LCD Steam Deck” and that the company is “actively evaluating aftermarket options” with no confirmed timeline.

The follow‑up comment from another iFixit employee clarified that Valve is sunsetting these parts, not iFixції’s inventory decision. This move is surprising, given that in 2022 the iFixit CEO told The Verge that battery replacements were “essential to making the Steam Deck stand the test of time.”

Valve discontinued the LCD model in late 2025, and after a brief stock outage, OLED prices surged in May due to higher memory and storage costs, spiking to $1,049 for the 512 GB variant without a controller.
