United App Adds Security Wait Times After Lines Return to Normal

United Airlines has added security wait times to its mobile app, but the feature arrived just as airport lines were returning to normal after the government shutdown. The update displays separate wait times for standard security and TSA PreCheck at United's hub airports, including Chicago O'Hare, Denver, Houston, LAX, Newark, San Francisco, and Washington Dulles.

Passengers can find the feature in the Travel section of the United app. The timing is particularly notable since over 60,000 TSA employees had been working without pay since February's partial government shutdown. Security lines finally returned to normal this week as TSA workers began receiving their first paychecks in over a month, leading to better attendance and shorter wait times.

The Department of Homeland Security shutdown continues, but President Trump belatedly ordered the agency on Friday to begin processing back pay for TSA employees. When asked why he hadn't signed the order earlier, White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt cited an "existential crisis" at airports. The new app feature will likely prove more useful during future disruptions rather than the current return to normal operations.
