United Airlines has updated its mobile app to streamline AirTag baggage tracking and provide TSA security wait time estimates, addressing both lost luggage frustrations and unpredictable airport security delays.

The update allows passengers to easily share AirTag location links directly with United customer service, significantly reducing the time needed to locate misplaced bags. This feature leverages Apple's AirTag 2 sharing system, which has proven effective in cutting down lost bag incidents. Additionally, the app now offers real-time TSA security wait time estimates at departure airports, a crucial tool during periods of understaffing caused by the ongoing government shutdown. Chief Information Officer Jason Birnbaum emphasized the airline's commitment to keeping travelers informed despite the staffing challenges.

The app also introduces several other enhancements, including turn-by-turn gate directions with walking time estimates, automatic flight status updates, and new self-service tools like direct rebooking and digital vouchers for delayed flights. These additions aim to make the airport experience smoother for travelers facing both baggage issues and unpredictable security lines.
