Apple’s Find My system is proving highly effective for airlines tracking baggage. New data from SITA, which runs the industry’s WorldTracer platform, shows bags with an AirTag have a 90% lower chance of being permanently lost. Airlines using the feature also report a 26% reduction in recovery time for delayed luggage.

The technology works through Apple’s Share Item Location feature, launched with iOS 18.2 in late 2024. Airlines can access a secure, interactive map showing an AirTag’s location via a shared link, helping staff locate bags quickly. Major carriers like United, Delta, British Airways, and Lufthansa have integrated the system.

For travelers, this means less stress and fewer headaches at baggage claim. You can monitor your bag’s journey from the plane to the carousel, avoiding unnecessary waiting. The feature also works with third-party Find My accessories, giving consumers more options beyond Apple’s own tracker.
