Testing iPhone Duo: Apple nearly solved my biggest concerns

I had three major questions about the form factor of Apple's new iPhone Duo, and wondered whether it would work for me. After some time with it, I have my answers.

There are many ways Apple could have approached its first folding iPhone. I've tested a lot of the other popular folding smartphones, and while I loved the idea, none had me sold. While I was debating whether to switch to the iPhone Duo, I had hesitation. My concerns weren't about the crease or battery life. Instead, I was worried about three things I considered critical: MagSafe, Face ID, and the software.

My MagSafe fears started even before the iPhone Duo was announced. Many rumors said there would be no MagSafe, which AppleInsider was skeptical about. Fortunately, those rumors turned out to be wrong. Still, I didn't know how the iPhone Duo would work with accessories. Fortunately, most of my stands still work. When closed, the iPhone Duo perches right onto my docks, and placed horizontally, it enters StandBy mode. When unfolded, it tilts on MagSafe stands. Other issues arise with battery packs and wallets, since the phone is compact. New accessories are already arriving, including more compact MagSafe wallets from ESR and Moft and a battery pack from BMX with a built-in stand that charges at 25W.

The reason I was worried about software was Apple's history of neglecting larger screen sizes. On the Pro Max iPhones and larger iPads, Apple mostly just scales everything up. In my testing, I focused on the software, and while some areas could use polish, Apple exceeded my expectations. StandBy mode has been an early favorite, with new options like weather with live animations, a new calendar view, and the Modular face.
