Ubisoft Shuts Down NFT Game Champions Tactics

Ubisoft is officially shutting down its Web3-enabled NFT strategy game, Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles. The game's servers will cease operations on October 30. This decision comes after careful consideration and despite a small, dedicated player base who had anticipated the move.

A significant feature of Champions Tactics was its ability to mint and trade battle units on a blockchain marketplace. However, the game's release in 2024 is notable, as the peak NFT craze occurred much earlier, around 2021, and largely dissipated by 2022. This late launch occurred years after high-profile NFT promotions had faded.

Ubisoft is attempting to transition players to another game, Might and Magic Fates, by offering in-game rewards. Might and Magic Fates is a deckbuilder where players can trade cards using real money or cryptocurrency, indicating Ubisoft's continued interest in blockchain-integrated gaming.
