Ubisoft cancels Prince of Persia remake, delays Black Flag remake

Ubisoft has cancelled its long-anticipated Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake and delayed the Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake, part of a major restructuring to cut €200 million in costs. The company also shuttered its Stockholm studio and mandated a full return-to-office policy for employees.

This shake-up follows years of financial strain and recent layoffs, despite a new subsidiary with Tencent. Ubisoft aims to refocus on its core open-world adventures and games-as-a-service model, splitting its IPs into five creative houses each responsible for their own financial performance and brand strategy.

The cancelled games include six titles deemed below new quality standards, with only four new IPs in development. For consumers, this means fewer remakes from a beloved era and a sharper, more focused slate from Ubisoft moving forward, though the future of classic franchises like Prince of Persia remains uncertain.
