TV Time Shuts Down, Founder Launches Bingers App

TV Time, the social tracking app with 20 million registered users, will officially shut down on July 15 after parent company Blue Torch Capital pivoted toward an AI-heavy approach. Founder Anthony Pinto announced the closure, stating the service was "no longer sustainable to continue operating as a free app."

Pinto originally launched the platform in 2011 as a "funny side project" called TVShow Time. It rebranded to TV Time, was acquired by Whip Media in 2016, and later sold to Blue Torch Capital. The app built a dedicated global following over its 13-year run.

Now Pinto is launching Bingers, a modern alternative expected on the App Store and Play Store by the end of July. The new app promises all of TV Time's "most beloved features, refreshed with modern UI patterns" with faster performance and server costs kept "very, very low" to ensure longevity.

Bingers will compete with established rivals like Serializd and Letterboxd. A website currently offers a waitlist sign-up and plans to support TV Time history imports once the app launches.
