During its Q3 2026 earnings, Take-Two revealed it has paused development of Borderlands 4 for the Nintendo Switch 2. Initially slated for an October 3, 2025 release, following the game's September 12 launch, the port was indefinitely delayed in September 2025. This decision reflects a shift in focus toward optimizing the game and delivering quality post-launch content.

Take-Two cited the need for additional development and polish time as the reason for the delay. The company is still committed to bringing more titles to the platform, with PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26 in the works. The absence of the Switch 2 port in recent presentations strongly suggests its release won't be anytime soon, disappointing fans of the series.

Meanwhile, the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI is still planned for November 19, 2026, though it has already faced delays. Rockstar Games is expected to begin marketing the game this summer, and Take-Two is optimistic about its release. Considering the success of Grand Theft Auto V, which has sold 225 million units, the company is keen to get the rollout right.

This pause in Borderlands 4 development could be due to the technical challenges of porting the game to the new console or a strategic decision to focus resources. With the Switch 2 launch looming, the gaming community is eager for news on future titles, and the status of delayed ports.
