Star Wars: Galactic Racer brings Burnout-style racing to PS5 and PC this October

Fuse Games is tackling the Star Wars universe with Star Wars: Galactic Racer, a racing title that borrows heavily from Burnout's playbook. The studio includes veterans from Need for Speed and Burnout, which explains the focus on spectacular crashes and high-octane speed. An extended demo revealed three distinct vehicle classes with unique handling characteristics.

The blade racer can drift and tilt on its side edge, while landspeeders maintain stability during collisions. Skimspeeders gain speed bursts from tight corners. Two boost systems create risk-reward gameplay: Afterburner refills gradually while Ramjet generates intense heat that can blow up your engine. Players manage shields, hacking abilities, and status effects across races.

Each planet introduces environmental challenges that affect strategy. Acidic rivers require shield management, icy worlds extend Ramjet usage, and lava planets demand conservative boosting. The campaign follows Shade, a mysterious pilot, through a flowchart-style league system where you can choose optimal race paths. Some events prohibit any crashes, while others grant three lives.

Vehicle customization lets players upgrade cornering, top speed, and boost power using earned components and credits. Despite the Star Wars branding, the core racing mechanics stand on their own merit. The game launches October 6 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
