Sony Greenlights R-Rated Animated Bloodborne Film

Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group confirmed development on an animated film adaptation of FromSoftware’s 2015 Gothic horror RPG, *Bloodborne*. During a CinemaCon presentation, executives stated the adaptation intends to remain “very true” to the game’s notoriously graphic and violent content. This move signals Sony’s continued commitment to leveraging its first-party PlayStation IP for cinematic ventures.

This announcement arrives shortly after reports surfaced that the now-shuttered Bluepoint Games pitched a remake of the title, a project FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki reportedly blocked. Miyazaki apparently expressed a desire to handle any revival himself, despite being too busy for the task. Fans have long clamored for a modern version of the Lovecraft-inspired classic.

PlayStation Productions is co-producing the animated feature alongside Lyrical Animation and gaming YouTube personality Seán McLoughlin, known online as jacksepticeye. Given the early stage of production, Variety reports no target release date is yet attached to the project. The focus now shifts to how the animation team will translate the game’s intricate body horror and challenging combat into a feature film format.

Ultimately, this adaptation represents a significant attempt by Sony to translate the atmosphere of its high-acclaim, niche titles for a broader visual media audience, potentially paving the way for other difficult IP conversions.
