Samsung is preparing to launch its "Intelligent Eyewear" this fall, showcasing designs from Warby Parker and Gentle Monster at Unpacked. While prototypes have been seen before, these production designs impressed with their thin, lightweight, and durable build, aiming to blend technology with everyday fashion. James Choi, corporate EVP and head of XR R&D at Samsung, emphasized the importance of style and natural wearability, stating, "People want a natural, stylish fashion item, not a piece of technology on their face."

The glasses, powered by the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1, will leverage phone compute for faster responses and data protection. They offer up to nine hours of mixed-use battery life with additional charges from the case, and can be controlled via Wear OS watches and connected with apps like Maps and Interpreter.

Addressing public skepticism around smart glasses, Samsung is prioritizing privacy with features like an LED camera indicator and wear detection. Choi acknowledged the challenges of navigating public perception and differing cultural views, noting ongoing communication with governments to ensure regulatory compliance. "They must first be something people really want to wear every day," Choi stated, highlighting the delicate balance between innovation and public acceptance.
