Samsung has indefinitely shelved its highly anticipated Ballie household robot, dashing hopes for a consumer release. Originally unveiled at CES 2020 and redesigned for CES 2024, the rolling companion robot with a built-in projector was scheduled for a summer 2025 launch. However, Bloomberg reports the project is now paused.

A Samsung spokesperson confirmed Ballie will remain an 'active innovation platform' for internal R&D, informing future spatially aware AI and smart home privacy design. Industry analysts speculate that rising component costs, particularly RAM, are forcing companies to be more selective with experimental hardware. This cancellation highlights the immense difficulty in bridging the gap between robotics prototypes and viable consumer products in the competitive smart home market.
