Roblox expands mandatory age‑gated tiers worldwide

Roblox has rolled out mandatory age‑gated account tiers across every market after a U.S. test in May. Users are placed into one of three tiers based on their age, with the age brackets varying by region. In the United States, Roblox Kids covers ages 5‑8, Roblox Select spans 9‑15, and the standard account serves anyone older.

Each tier aligns with the platform’s maturity labels. Kids accounts can only access Minimal and Mild experiences and lack any chat functionality. Select accounts gain entry to Moderate content and can chat with vetted contacts approved by parents. At 16, players move to the standard account, which still blocks games marked Restricted for users under 18.

New parental controls let guardians block any title until a child turns 16 or approve out‑of‑range games case by case. The system relies on age‑verification technology that previously faltered when children submitted altered photos. By enforcing these tiers, Roblox aims to tighten safety while preserving the social play that drives its massive user base.
