Rivian's R2 marks the company's volume play in the EV market, offering a more affordable alternative to the pricier R1T and R1S. The two-row SUV measures 15 inches shorter than the R1S, roughly matching the Tesla Model Y in size while maintaining Rivian's signature off-road capability.

Priced at $57,990 for the Performance trim, the R2 offers 656 horsepower, 609 lb-ft torque, and 330 miles of range from its 88kWh battery. Charging at 230kW, it reaches 80% capacity in under 30 minutes. The 2027 base model will start at $44,990, targeting a broader audience than Rivian's previous offerings.

Despite lacking smartphone projection and voice recognition at launch, the R2 maintains premium interior quality with its 15.6-inch touchscreen and Haptic Halos controls. With 9.6 inches of ground clearance and competitive off-road performance, the R2 establishes Rivian as a serious contender in the mainstream EV segment.
