Rivian is gearing up to ship its first R2 midsize SUVs later this year, expanding beyond the flagship R1S and R1T models. The lineup launches with a single Performance trim priced at $57,990, while a lower‑priced Premium version will arrive in late 2026. Both variants share an 87.9 kWh battery pack and are equipped with 21‑inch wheels as standard in the United States.

EPA testing documents posted on the Rivian forums reveal an official range estimate of 335 miles (539 km) for the Performance model on 21‑inch all‑terrain tires. Surprisingly, swapping to 20‑inch tires drops the rating to 314 miles, despite the usual efficiency gain from smaller wheels. The specs also list an 86.8 kWh usable capacity, 210 kW DC fast‑charging, and an 11.5 kW Level 2 AC rate.

Standard equipment now includes an upgraded heat pump, improving cabin comfort without sacrificing range. Rivian’s move into a more mainstream price bracket signals confidence that its EV platform can compete with established midsize SUVs on both performance and efficiency. With deliveries slated soon, consumers will be the first to gauge whether the R2 lives up to the company’s high expectations.
