Apple is finally bringing an upgraded Siri to select iPhones this fall, powered by the new Apple Intelligence features announced at WWDC. This marks a significant leap for the virtual assistant, which has long lagged behind competitors. Early hands-on experiences suggest Siri AI can now handle complex queries and chained commands effectively, addressing years of user disappointment.

Compatibility is tied to devices supporting Apple Intelligence. This means the iPhone 15 Pro and newer models will receive the AI-powered upgrade. Notably, iPads and Macs with Apple silicon are also included, along with the 2024 iPad mini. Users can check for the "Apple Intelligence & Siri" section in Settings to confirm eligibility for the upcoming iOS 17 stable release.

Initially, Siri AI will roll out as a beta, requiring users to opt in. While newer Pro models will leverage more powerful on-device models for enhanced features like expressive voices and improved dictation, a minimum of 12GB RAM is cited for these advanced capabilities. This distinguishes the capabilities between the higher-end and base models of future iPhones.

Unlike some of Apple's previous AI efforts, this Siri upgrade appears genuinely useful. The virtual assistant demonstrated speed and accuracy even in beta builds, suggesting a tangible improvement for iPhone users. This could shift perceptions of Apple's AI development.
