MeTV's AI Upscaling Ruins Classic Super Mario Cartoon

MeTV Toons has begun airing classic episodes of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show from 1989, but the results are disastrous. The broadcast channel appears to have processed the original footage through a low-quality AI upscaler, producing off-putting visuals where characters look markedly different from the originals.

According to reports, the AI processing has created bizarre artifacts throughout the episodes. Everything appears unnaturally smoothed over, with some characters bearing little resemblance to their original designs. Even more embarrassingly, the AI seems to have garbled the title card, changing it to "The Suele Mario Bros. Super Show" - a glaring error that demonstrates these tools' ongoing struggles with text recognition.

Many original episodes remain available on YouTube for comparison, making the degradation immediately apparent. The original series, while never a visual masterpiece, at least maintained consistent character designs and animation quality. This AI "enhancement" has achieved the opposite of its intended effect, turning a nostalgic viewing experience into something actively unpleasant.
