Meta Tests Links in Instagram Captions for Verified Users

Instagram has begun testing clickable links in post captions for subscribers to Meta Verified, a feature that could significantly change how creators share content. Blogger Andrea Valeria spotted the test, sharing screenshots of a clickable Substack link she added to an Instagram post. According to Valeria, an in-app message indicated she could share up to 10 links per month.

Meta confirmed the test to Engadget but declined to share details about availability or how many users have access. The feature appears limited - Valeria's link works on Instagram's mobile app but not on the website. This limitation has been a defining characteristic of Instagram since its early days, spawning an entire industry of "link in bio" platforms like Linktree that help creators direct followers to off-platform websites.

The test represents Meta's latest experiment with making link-sharing a paid feature. The company recently tested requiring Meta Verified subscriptions for link-sharing on Facebook. Meta Verified for creators starts at $14.99 per month, with premium plans reaching $499.99 monthly. While this new feature could transform creator-follower interactions, the 10-link monthly cap would likely still necessitate external link management solutions for many users.
