iOS 27 adds editable Genmoji creator

Apple is adding a streamlined Genmoji editor to iOS 27. The new tool lets users start from an existing emoji, a photo, a tagged contact, or a text prompt, then generate a custom 3‑D‑style emoji. A developer build revealed the interface, which appears alongside other Apple Intelligence features slated for a fall rollout.

What sets this version apart is a “Describe a change” field that accepts follow‑up prompts. If the initial result misses the mark, users can type instructions—such as swapping colors or adding accessories—without restarting the creation process. MacRumors demonstrated a kitten‑with‑umbrella emoji being altered from orange to calico in a single step.

Apple says the updated creator produces more consistent output, defaulting to a cute, cartoonish style but offering sketch or drawing variants. By lowering the friction of fine‑tuning Genmoji, the company hopes to make AI‑generated stickers a routine part of messaging. The feature will land with iOS 27’s public release later this year.

Developers can access the API through the new Apple Intelligence framework, enabling third‑party apps to embed the same editing flow. This could boost adoption across social platforms that rely on expressive graphics. With iOS 27 shipping this fall, users will see the Genmoji upgrade alongside other AI‑driven enhancements like Live Translate and smarter Siri suggestions.
