Instagram Grid Reorder Feature Finally Arrives

Instagram has finally implemented one of its most requested features after teasing it for nearly a year. The Meta-owned app now allows users to rearrange their profile grid, a capability announced by head Adam Mosseri last year but only now becoming available globally. This change gives creators more control over their profile aesthetics beyond the default chronological arrangement.

The grid reordering option appears when users long-press any post on their profile, revealing a "Reorder grid" option alongside "Pin to main grid" and "Archive." Any pinned posts remain at the top and appear blacked out during reordering. The feature addresses long-standing user complaints about being unable to curate their profiles beyond chronological order, which has limited creative expression on the platform.

While Mosseri announced the feature last year, evidence of it existed in the app code since 2022, according to app reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi. The implementation follows Meta's pattern of eventually delivering popular features after initial announcements. Users can now drag posts to create the exact profile layout they want, with no time-based restrictions on post positioning.
