Instagram's 'Your Feed' Test: Customizable Reels-First Interface

Instagram is reportedly testing a new Your Feed tab in India that puts Reels front and center with unprecedented customization options. According to social media tipster Howfxr, the new interface would swap the current Reels and DM tabs, introducing an endless-scrolling experience where users can pin and reorder different content feeds.

This customization allegedly includes options for favorite list posts, suggested content based on activity, and a post-only feed from followed accounts without Reels. Users could arrange these feeds in their preferred order at the top of the interface. The test appears to be limited to select users in India, continuing Instagram's pattern of rolling out major changes in specific markets before wider deployment.

This move aligns with Instagram head Adam Mosseri's October announcement that the platform was prioritizing Reels-first experiences in India, citing short-form content and DMs as the primary drivers of growth. The platform has been steadily shifting toward video content since 2021, following TikTok's explosive growth and YouTube's successful Shorts launch. While some users have expressed nostalgia for Instagram's photo-focused origins, the company seems committed to maximizing engagement through Reels, betting that customizable feeds will make the transition more palatable.
