Instagram is now banning users who exploit Meta's smart glasses to create content by secretly recording individuals. Instagram head Adam Mosseri stated, "We don't want people to be surreptitiously taking videos of other people and harassing them and then posting them on our platform."

Much of the problematic content involves creators filming unsuspecting individuals, often service workers or women in public, without their consent. These videos, frequently disguised as pranks, have led to the glasses being nicknamed "pervert glasses" and "predator glasses."

Meta has confirmed the deactivation of several high-profile accounts for posting harassment content filmed with its glasses. The company recently implemented a software update to disable the camera if the recording indicator LED is tampered with, a move aimed at curbing unwanted surveillance. The effectiveness of this fix remains to be seen, though Meta acknowledges its role in enabling such behavior.
