Instagram adds Ultra HDR and Night Sight to Android camera

Instagram is bringing Ultra HDR and Night Sight support to its in-app camera on Android, finally addressing long-standing complaints about how the platform handles HDR content from Android flagships. Users will see the same lifelike vibrancy from Instagram's camera that their native camera app delivers, thanks to a completely reworked capture-to-upload pipeline.

Google's own AI model testing reportedly shows video uploaded from Android flagships to Instagram now scores the same or better than the leading competitor. Meta is also rolling out an Instagram app for Android tablets and upgrading its Edits Reels editor with AI-powered upscaling and sound separation.

These changes were unveiled during Google's I/O edition of the Android Show. For Android users who've watched their photos lose detail after posting, this should close the gap between native and social media camera performance.
