YouTuber Secret Hobbyist has developed an innovative custom PlayStation PCB that combines components from different PlayStation models, creating what they call the "PlayStation Hybrid." This Frankenstein motherboard pulls parts from both the PM-41 v2 (PSOne) and PU18 (original "phat" PlayStation) while adding modern conveniences like microSD card support for game loading.

The hybrid design incorporates an Asahi Kasei DAC from older models for superior audio quality, along with the PSOne's more power-efficient GPU and CPU. A Hispeedido FPGA chip enables HDMI video output, allowing the console to work with modern displays. This combination of vintage and modern components creates a unique PlayStation experience that draws less than two watts of power.

The resulting PCB is even smaller than the original PSOne board, opening possibilities for a handheld version of the classic console. While Secret Hobbyist hasn't designed an enclosure yet, the technical achievement represents a significant step in retro console modding, blending decades of PlayStation hardware evolution into a single, compact motherboard.
