Pangram Pangram, maker of a widely used tool for detecting AI-generated text, has released new tools for flagging AI-generated video and image content. Subscribers can now upload videos to receive an assessment of whether AI was used to create or edit the clip. The tool distinguishes between "partially AI" and entirely AI-generated content, featuring a heatmap that flags likely AI aspects.
The underlying model "particularly excels at frontier AI video detection," according to the company, which claims the tool flagged AI content with over 98 percent accuracy in internal testing. Pangram has also upgraded its AI image detection abilities. The Pangram Image 1.0 model is now available via the Chrome extension, which automatically scans images as users browse and flags likely AI content.
In testing, the image model flagged over 99 percent of AI images with a false positive rate of 0.27 percent. However, the company notes that at resolutions below 512 x 512, results come with a reduced confidence disclaimer. CEO Max Spero explained that most phone cameras, including iPhones, perform AI postprocessing to add detail to real photos, which the model must distinguish from fully AI-generated visuals.
The new AI image and video detection abilities are available now to Pangram subscribers; free accounts can check a handful of images without a paid plan.
