Virtual private networks offer great security, but controlling your own tech matters just as much. You might see German Google results or deal with a work VPN that refuses to quit. Disabling an iPhone VPN is surprisingly tricky since multiple off switches exist, but it's actually straightforward once you know where to look.

The simplest method is opening your VPN app and hitting the disconnect button, usually a green power icon. If that fails, head to Settings > VPN & Device Management to toggle your connection off manually. For a permanent solution, delete the app entirely, then verify the VPN profile is gone from your settings to prevent it from returning.

VPNs can reactivate automatically through 'auto-connect' or 'on-demand' settings within the app or iOS itself. If removal persists after a reboot, you may have malware or a managed device. You should also disable iCloud Private Relay, which functions similarly, via Settings > iCloud. Knowing these controls helps balance privacy with convenience.
