Since 2025, Anthropic introduced a voice mode for its chatbot Claude, letting users speak instead of type. In July, the feature was expanded to work with the more powerful models Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus, and it can pull context from connected apps like Gmail, Google Calendar, and Slack.

Voice mode is available on Claude’s mobile (Android & iOS), desktop, and web apps. On mobile, open the app, tap the black waveform icon, grant microphone permission, and start talking. Claude will listen, then generate a response once you google a prompt. It stays in voice mode until you tap Stop. The system uses a “turn‑based” architecture, so pause after a question to signal the end—unlike Open AI’s duplex voice mode.

You can switch models via the picker at the bottom of the interface: Haiku for quick answers, Sonnet for everyday tasks, and Opus for complex work (paid only). Voice mode supports 14 languages, and you can adjust voice speed and style in Settings. Free accounts can use Haiku and Sonnet; Opus requires a paid subscription.
