Anthropic has updated Claude's voice mode to support its more powerful Opus and Sonnet models, expanding a feature previously limited to the Haiku model. Voice mode enables full spoken conversations with the chatbot, allowing users to switch between models mid-conversation and move between text and voice without losing context.

The update adds tool integration for Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Slack, letting Claude check calendars or summarize emails aloud. Free accounts connect one tool; paid plans support more. Models in voice mode follow the user's subscription plan, starting on the last model selected in text chat.

Language support now includes French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in beta, though users must manually select a language. Voice mode works on iOS, Android, desktop, and web, optimized for phones, with conversations counting toward usage limits. The newest Fable model remains unsupported.

Meanwhile, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Voice in its desktop app powered by GPT-Live, which can direct multiple agents in ChatGPT Work or Codex by voice. The feature is rolling out on macOS and Windows to paid plans.
