Google rolls out a new fake‑call warning on Android, letting users end a call when a caller pretends to be a contact. The feature relies on a silent, end‑to‑end encrypted handshake over RCS that confirms the caller’s identity in real time. When the handshake fails, the Phone app flashes a prompt.

The update targets devices running Android 12 and later that ship with Google’s Phone app. It arrives just before the company’s next major release, Android 17, slated for later this year. By adding a digital handshake, Google expands its scam‑call protection beyond the existing 2024 system, tightening privacy and user safety.

Alongside the call feature, Google Photos equips a wardrobe tool that catalogs clothing in images and lets users virtually try on outfits. Google Play Books gains an AI recap that supplies contextual notes on highlighted text and summarizes current passages. Both tools roll out now on select devices and titles in English.

Google also updates Circle to Search to recognize multiple items in a photo, expands Quick Share’s AirDrop compatibility, and adds new emoji combos in Gboard’s Emoji Kitchen. These incremental tweaks reinforce Google’s push toward a more integrated, AI‑driven ecosystem, offering users richer media management and safer communication in everyday use.
