Google Calendar Expands Color Palette to 200 Options

Google Calendar now lets users pick any hue for events, expanding from a limited set of 11 to 200 distinct colors. The web interface offers 24 preset tones plus a full RGB picker, while the mobile app still provides only the 24 defaults. This shift cuts down on color overlap for planners juggling dozens of appointments.

The feature is rolling out today and should reach all users within a few weeks. It is available to anyone with a personal Google account, as well as all Google Workspace and Workspace Individual subscribers. Users can toggle the default setting on or off, giving them control over whether the new palette applies automatically.

This update follows recent additions that positioned Calendar as a comprehensive scheduling tool, including a personal task list and an AI‑powered time‑suggestion feature that finds optimal slots for group events. By broadening color choices, Google reinforces its commitment to keeping the app competitive against rivals that already offer extensive customization.

For users who rely on color coding to stay organized, the new palette eliminates the need to recycle hues across overlapping events. The ability to pick any shade also opens creative possibilities for branding or thematic planning. Overall, the change adds a layer of flexibility that aligns with Google’s strategy to deepen engagement with its calendar product.
