Faraday Future pivots from struggling EVs to $89K humanoid robots

Faraday Future, the electric vehicle startup that sold just 15 cars earlier this year, is now betting big on robotics. The company unveiled a lineup including a $89,900 humanoid robot called Futurist and a $2,000 quadruped named Navi designed for kids learning embodied AI.

The pivot comes after years of financial turmoil, lawsuits, and layoffs that derailed the company's original EV ambitions. Founder YT Jia returned as sole global CEO in May 2025 amid major executive shakeups, though this "fresh start" follows a pattern of ambitious pivots. Faraday showed its first production-ready car at CES 2017 but never scaled manufacturing.

The Futurist stands 5'8" tall and features NVIDIA Sonic's full-body motion control system. Meanwhile, the Navi quadruped offers optional 3D-printed canine heads. Faraday also offers an industrial robotic arm with undisclosed pricing likely targeted at business customers.

Despite the steep price tags and questionable track record, Faraday claims it will ship over 100 robotics units in June, with first-half 2025 shipments expected to exceed 220 units. That's a notable jump from its 15-vehicle milestone, though whether consumers will embrace these expensive robots remains uncertain.
