Energizer's Child-Safe Coin Batteries Prevent Burning If Swallowed

Energizer has launched a new line of coin lithium batteries designed to reduce serious injuries if a child accidentally swallows them. The Ultimate Child Shield technology prevents the batteries from causing burns in the esophagus, addressing a dangerous risk that prompts more than 3,500 ingestion incidents annually in the United States.

Traditional coin batteries can cause esophageal burning within just 15 minutes of ingestion. The new batteries address this by incorporating a safety dye that colors a child's mouth blue if it contacts saliva—giving caregivers a visible warning sign that something is wrong so they can seek medical help immediately.

The protective technology is available on the company's size 2032, 2025 and 2016 batteries, which power everyday devices including watches and AirTags. This covers three of the most common coin battery sizes found in households, making the safety feature broadly accessible to families with children.
