ChatGPT adds bank‑linked finance advice for Pro users

OpenAI has begun rolling out a preview of a personal‑finance add‑on for ChatGPT. Starting today, US‑based ChatGPT Pro subscribers can link bank, credit‑card and investment accounts through a built‑in “Finances” tab through secure OAuth flows. The feature promises advice that moves beyond generic budgeting tips, letting the model suggest actions based on actual balances and transactions.

OpenAI powers the connection with Plaid, a data‑aggregation service that links more than 12,000 banks and fintech platforms such as Citi, Chase, Robinhood and Affirm. Once linked, ChatGPT builds a visual dashboard of balances, recent spend and liabilities. The system deliberately hides full account numbers and blocks any ability to initiate transfers, and users may revoke access at any time.

The preview is limited to a small group of Pro users so OpenAI can refine the experience before opening it to Plus subscribers and the broader market. Account data lives only within the Finances tab; users can delete stored memories, and OpenAI’s data‑control settings prevent the information from training future models. This launch marks the first time a large‑language model offers actionable, account‑specific financial guidance.
