These pillars aim to define how responsible AI should function for teens and hold companies accountable for addressing risks to young users.

The Blueprint builds on OpenAI's ongoing efforts to strengthen safety measures in its products. In August, the company began rolling out Chat GPT for Teens in Australia, offering a tailored default experience for users aged 13 to 17. This rollout incorporates updated safeguards aligned with adolescent developmental needs and complements existing parental controls, under-18 safety policies, and age assurance mechanisms.

OpenAI emphasizes that the responsibility for youth safety should not rest solely on young people or their families. Instead, companies must integrate protections into their products from the outset. The organization remains committed to collaborating with teens, parents, educators, researchers, and policymakers to shape evidence-based standards that balance protection with access to the benefits of AI.
