ChatGPT Plus Gets Personal Finance Features in Major Expansion

OpenAI is rolling out its personal finance tools to ChatGPT Plus subscribers in the U.S., marking a significant expansion from the original $100/month Pro plan. The company announced that Plus users can now securely connect financial accounts and access spending insights previously available only to higher-tier customers.

The new features integrate with Plaid to sync transaction data, showing users a dashboard of spending patterns, subscriptions, upcoming payments, and investment performance. Customers can also set financial goals that ChatGPT will consider when providing guidance. Setup involves opening Finances from the sidebar or using the '@Finances, connect my accounts' prompt to begin linking accounts.

OpenAI emphasizes user control over financial data, allowing removal at any time and separating personal finance information from ChatGPT's memory feature. Private conversations will not incorporate this financial data, addressing privacy concerns that often accompany these integrations.

This move positions ChatGPT against competing AI assistants and fintech apps that already offer financial management tools. The expansion makes sophisticated money-tracking capabilities available to more users at a fraction of the original cost.
