OpenAI just rolled out a preview of ChatGPT's personal finance experience to Pro users in the U.S. The feature lets people connect their bank accounts through Plaid, view spending patterns on a dashboard, and ask GPT-5.5-powered questions grounded in their actual financial data. More than 200 million monthly ChatGPT users already turn to the tool for budgeting and investment advice.

GPT-5.5 Thinking, the default model powering Finances, scored 79 out of 100 on an internal personal finance benchmark crafted with 50-plus finance professionals. Pro users get GPT-5.5 Pro at 82.5. The system cannot see full account numbers or make changes to accounts, and users control data through settings, disconnection options, and financial memory management.

Beyond transaction tracking, users can share goals like saving for a car or managing family loans, which ChatGPT saves as financial memories. OpenAI is partnering with Intuit to let users take action directly, from credit card applications to tax consultations. Early testers found it helped them build realistic monthly mortgage payoff plans.
