Bluesky has increased video length limits to 10 minutes. That's a jump, given the platform increased the limit to three minutes last year. Prior to that, videos were maxed out at 60 seconds. It has also increased the maximum file size for videos to 300MB. The platform has promised upload speeds have been improved, so videos will "upload 2–3x faster."

This change means other apps on the decentralized AT Protocol network can host longer videos, including Bluescreen, Reelo, and Skylight. The updated limit puts Bluesky on par with TikTok, which allows up to 10-minute videos. Meta's Threads app only lets users post videos up to five minutes.

As for X, free users can upload videos up to 140 seconds long. Paid users can upload hours of video up to 16GB, which has made X a place for illegal leaks of full movies. This move could help boost Bluesky's user base. Data from Similarweb and TechCrunch shows active users have shrunk by 25 percent year-over-year as of July.
