Apple announced updated HomePod mini 2 speakers and Apple TV 4K at its 'Welcome home' event, featuring significant audio enhancements and Siri AI integration. The Apple TV 4K now includes far field microphones for hands-free Siri activation, enabling content discovery by pulling context from Messages — allowing users to ask it to "play the show Sam texted me about." Siri can answer content questions without interrupting audio, displaying text-only responses on screen. The updated remote includes a find-my-remote sound feature, similar to AirPods location functionality.
The HomePod mini 2 operates on the S10 chip, a major upgrade from the S5, enabling future Siri AI capabilities (not available at launch). New features include Sound Glow, which projects dynamic visuals on the speaker's back-lit panel, and expanded home theater support allowing up to four HomePod speakers with the new Apple TV 4K, doubling the previous stereo pair limit for immersive surround sound.
Audio setups tested with two front HomePod minis and two rear speakers delivered enhanced bass and dimensional sound. However, the full benefits require multiple speaker purchases, making it a premium upgrade for dedicated home theater enthusiasts.
