The Archive of Our Own (AO3), a nonprofit fan fiction hub, has officially exited open beta after 17 years of operation. Founded by the Organization for Transformative Works, the site launched in 2009 with just 347 accounts and 6,598 works. Today, it boasts 10 million registered users and hosts 17 million fan-created works. AO3's transition marks a significant milestone for a platform that has grown exponentially while maintaining its volunteer-driven model.

Users will notice stable performance but no radical overhaul, as the team focuses on incremental improvements. Key new features include 'Orphaning' (preserving works post-account deletion) and downloadable formats like EPUB and PDF for offline access.
