Toot.community to Shut Down Permanently

Jorijn Schrijvershof, administrator of toot.community, has announced the server will permanently close on 28 October 2026. Schrijvershof cited increasing stress and decreasing reward from managing the platform, citing daily issues with spam, bots, technical problems, abuse reports, and user conflicts. The administrator also expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of social media interactions, noting how conversations frequently become hostile and that a small number of conflicts consume significant resources.

The financial burden has also been a major factor, with donations failing to cover costs for an extended period, leaving Schrijvershof to bear most expenses and responsibilities. The server is currently closed to new registrations and will remain online for three months to allow users to migrate their accounts to another Mastodon or Fediverse server. A link to Mastodon's official migration guide is provided, with a note that followers can be transferred but not old posts or media. Users are advised to download an archive if they wish to keep their content. Schrijvershof will continue to be active on their personal account, @jorijn.
