AMD announced that FSR 4.1 upscaling technology will expand beyond the Radeon RX 9000 series to older RDNA 3 GPUs starting in July. The AI-powered upscaling was previously exclusive to the newest cards, but AMD has optimized the technology to run on hardware lacking native specialized components.

Jack Huynh, AMD's Senior Vice President and General Manager of Computing Graphics, explained that his team carefully tuned and validated the model for older cards. This included optimizing memory usage and reducing artifacts in fast-moving scenes across hundreds of PC configurations.

AMD promises support for over 300 games at launch, making the technology accessible to a much broader user base. RDNA 2 owners will need to wait until early 2027 for the update, while NVIDIA's DLSS 4 already supports all RTX cards with some features limited to newer models.

This move democratizes advanced upscaling technology that can boost frame rates while maintaining image quality, giving AMD an edge in accessibility over competitors who gate features behind newer hardware purchases.
