Amazon has officially ordered eight episodes of a TV show based on the RoboCop franchise. The showrunner for this adaptation is Peter Ocko, known for his work on "The Office" and as showrunner for "Lodge 49."

James Wan, co-creator of "Saw" and director of "Aquaman," is producing the series. Ed Neumeier, who co-wrote the original 1987 "RoboCop" film, is also on board as an executive producer. Wan stated that Paul Verhoeven's original creation "was decades ahead of its time, and its questions about technology, identity and who corporations really serve have only grown more urgent."

The original film's villain was Omni Consumer Products, a company whose vast reach and involvement in various technologies draws parallels to Amazon. Details regarding the cast and release window have not yet been announced. The "RoboCop" franchise, first established nearly 40 years ago, has seen multiple sequels, animated series, and live-action adaptations, with a reboot film in 2014 and a video game, "RoboCop: Rogue City," released recently.
