Amazon MGM Studios rolled out its 2026 theatrical slate, stacking a mix of nostalgic sequels and original fare. The lineup opens with Hugh Jackman‑fronted *The Sheep Detectives* on May 8, followed by a Mattel‑based *Masters of the Universe* in June and a heist comedy *How to Rob a Bank* in September. The schedule reflects the studio’s shift toward longer runs and windows for word‑of‑mouth buzz.

Earlier this year Amazon MGM pledged up to 14 releases with 45‑day theatrical windows, a stark contrast to its former limited schedule. The approach has already yielded a significant $670 million in box‑office receipts across four films in four months, according to domestic distribution head Kevin Wilson. He stresses that scale and ambition, not sheer volume, drive the strategy.

Among the untitled slots, *Highlander* starring Henry Cavill and a sequel to Mel Brooks’ *Spaceballs*—titled *Spaceballs: The New One*—stand out as high‑profile bets. Both tap 1980s cult nostalgia, aiming to draw older fans and younger audiences alike. The slate’s diversity signals Amazon’s intent to compete directly with legacy studios for blockbuster attention and a sizable marketing push.
