iPhone Duo Supply and Launch
Apple is limiting U.S. iPhone Duo orders to two per customer, and walk-in sales are restricted in Japan and South Korea. Delivery dates are moving up for some buyers, though Apple says stock will be thin at its stores on Friday. Analysts at 9to5Mac argue the constrained availability is a mixed blessing for Apple. A MagSafe battery from BMX is also timed to the handset's launch.
October 28 Event
Apple has scheduled a second product event for Wednesday, October 28, dubbed "Pro and Tell." Reports point to an OLED iPad mini and a touchscreen MacBook Pro, while Mac Rumors reports the MacBook Ultra has been dropped in favor of the existing Pro line.
Software Releases
Release candidates for iOS 27.2 and mac OS Golden Gate 27.2 have reached developers, with watchOS, tvOS and visionOS 27.2 following. The tvOS 27.2 release lays groundwork for Home Pod surround sound, and a new iOS 27.2 setting lets owners lock Home Pod touch controls. The Sound Glow feature from the Home Pod mini 2 is also reaching older Home Pod models.
Apple Services and Legal
WhatsApp may soon open all iPhone links in an in-app browser. The EFF's Privacy Badger extension has expanded to Safari. Patent firm Taction wants royalties on iPhone and Apple Watch sales through 2035 after a $5.7 billion verdict. A faceprint privacy lawsuit against Apple Photos will continue after being narrowed, and Apple acquired Samplab to strengthen Logic Pro.
Coming Up
Apple's Pro and Tell event takes place Wednesday, October 28. The iPhone Duo goes on sale Friday.
