Apple's stock experienced its worst day in over a year, closing down significantly as the company implemented widespread price increases across its product lines. The tech giant raised prices on Macs, iPads, Apple TV, Home Pod, Home Pod mini, and the Vision Pro, with the latter now starting at $3,699, up from $3,499. The MacBook Neo saw a particularly surprising jump, increasing from $599 to $699. These hikes, attributed to rising memory costs, did not impress Wall Street, though many analysts maintained their existing ratings and price targets. In response to the new pricing, Amazon continued to offer deals on Macs and iPads, with some models discounted by as much as $150 off the new MSRP. Apple's online store was temporarily down for updates prior to the price adjustments, and the company has indicated that further increases may be forthcoming. Apple is reportedly set to skip its M6 Pro and Max chips in favor of new, AI-focused M7 processors designed for artificial intelligence workloads. This strategic shift aims to accelerate the debut of chips optimized for AI tasks, with 2027 Macs expected to feature these new processors. Separately, rumors suggest Apple is developing an "iRing" wearable device to compete with offerings from companies like Oura, though details remain scarce. Development of the second-generation foldable iPhone, the iPhone Ultra, has reportedly been greenlit, while the status of a potential iPhone Air 3 is uncertain.

Software Updates & Features

Developers can now access the second beta of watch OS 27 for the Apple Watch Ultra, which includes Siri AI capabilities and improved performance. iOS 27 beta 2 is also available, bringing updates to the Notes app, including a rare power-user feature. Within iOS, the new Siri app will default to Apple's AI but allows users to switch to Chat GPT as an alternative. A new report from Counterpoint Research predicts Apple will achieve record market share in three out of four major product categories in 2026. To help offset recent price increases, Apple's annual "Back to School" promotion is expected to begin by next week, offering eligible students a way to mitigate higher costs on Macs and iPads. Amazon Prime Day sales continue to offer discounts on Apple products, including Air Pods Pro, Air Pods Max, and various iPad models, with some deals providing savings of up to $450.
