Apple Hikes Prices Across Mac and iPad Lines Amid Component Shortage

Apple raised prices across nearly its entire hardware catalog after a brief store outage. The changes hit the MacBook Air, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro, while the iPhone lineup remains untouched. These adjustments follow warnings from Tim Cook about rising costs for essential components that the company can no longer absorb internally.

Global shortages of RAM and flash memory drove these changes, as AI providers and data centers compete for the same hardware. The most severe hit landed on the M3 Ultra Mac Studio, which jumped from $3,999 to $5,299. This massive increase likely stems from the model's 96GB of RAM, making it the most expensive update in the lineup.

Other adjustments include the MacBook Neo rising to $699 and the M5 MacBook Pro hitting $1,999. While Apple's direct store reflects these new costs, third-party retailers like Amazon still offer older pricing. This creates a narrow window for consumers to avoid the hikes before these retailers adjust their own lists to match Apple's new pricing.

Supply chain pressure forced the discontinuation of several Mac Studio configurations and the entry-level Mac mini. These moves, combined with the price jumps, signal a shift in how the company manages its hardware margins during a period of intense component demand. Buyers now face higher entry costs for almost every tablet and laptop.
