Samsung to Exclusively Supply OLED for MacBook Pro

The upcoming touch-enabled MacBook Pro, expected in late 2026 or early 2027, will exclusively source its OLED displays from Samsung Display. Apple is reportedly freezing out other suppliers for this key component, marking an unusual move as the company typically diversifies its supply chain.

Sources indicate that Samsung Display will be the sole provider of OLED panels for both the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. The tech giant is anticipated to supply approximately 2.5 million units for this launch. While LG Display was previously involved in discussions, concerns over substrate efficiency and productivity led to Samsung becoming the exclusive partner from the development stage.

This exclusive arrangement is expected to benefit Samsung Display significantly for several years. Although LG Display will continue supplying LCD panels for MacBook Pros and OLED panels for iPads, its entry into the OLED MacBook Pro supply chain is not anticipated until 2029 at the earliest.
