Samsung to Exclusively Supply MacBook Ultra OLED Touch Panels

Apple will exclusively rely on Samsung Display for OLED touch panels for its redesigned MacBook Pro models, per a report from Korea-based The Elec. The 14-inch and 16-inch panels will be produced at Samsung's 8.6-generation OLED line in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, with an estimated initial supply of 250,000 panels and mass production starting around August.

Apple reportedly excluded LG Display and BOE Technology Group due to yield issues, making Samsung the sole supplier. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman indicates a launch in early 2027, delayed from late 2026 due to the global chip shortage.

The OLED touch panel is part of a major refresh rumored to include M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, a Dynamic Island replacing the notch, a thinner design, and potential MacBook Ultra branding. macOS 27 will feature a touch-friendly interface for the new laptops.
